Education

Between 1991 and 2004 Steven attained three degrees: a PhD in Educational Administration,  a Master’s degree in Counselling, and a BFA double major in Drama and Psychology.

Business

I’ve been self-employeed most of my adult life and have made money, lost money, and just made a living. I have had up to fourteen employees in a jewelry manaufacturing and design company, been in the construction industry doing everything from roofing, painting, framing and flooring; been a consultant for the banking and mining industry, run a franchise in the arts business, and had my private counselling practice for 25 years.

Teaching/Coaching

Steven has been teaching and coaching since he was seventeen. First, teaching and coaching swimming. He was the captain of his fencing team at college and assited the instructor. Upon greaduation, Steven taught acting, voice, creativity, and emotional expression both to professional actors and to the general public. In higher education, he taught psychology at the University of Saskatchewan, Adler University and the University of Phoenix.

Experience

1994 – Present: Lake & Associates Counselling Inc. CEO/Founder. Individual and group psychotherapy.

2001 – Present: Executive Support Net – CEO/Founder. Consulting, training, and policy creation.

2014 – Present: Clinical Supervisor for graduate counselling students and clinicians.

2017 – Present: Worksafe BC. Individual and group Critical Incident Stress Management.

2007 – 2021: Adler University – Graduate School of Professional Psychology. Adjunct Professor

2006 – 2021: BC Society of Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse. Individual and group psychotherapy.

2006 – 2009: University of Phoenix. Subject matter expert on Organizational Behaviour. Taught Team Dynamics for Managers, Personality, and Motivation & Emotion

2000-2005: PAR Consultants – Mental health counsellor for EAPs and EFAPs. Also provided training for corporations and non-profit organizations in stress management, harassment, and crisis management.

2002: College of Medicine – Clinical Faculty Member

1999-2001: Corrections Service Canada: Regional Psychiatric Centre (Prairie Region) – Within a maximum-security prison hospital, Steven delivered psycho-educational programs and acted as a primary therapist for individuals on the Sexual Offender unit and on the Aggressive Behavioural Control (ABC) unit as well as acted as the unit psychologist for the ABC program.
